Frequently asked

What is a Plant Score?

Plant Score is a 0–100 measure of how many unique plants you've eaten in the past 7 days, with 30 unique plants giving you a perfect score. It's based on the gut-microbiome research popularized by ZOE and Tim Spector — the more plant variety, the better the microbial diversity.

Do herbs and spices count as plants?

Yes — fresh herbs (basil, mint, parsley, coriander) count fully. Dried herbs and spices count at a quarter (four spices = one plant). Salt and black pepper don't count.

Does coffee, tea, or chocolate count?

Coffee beans, tea leaves, and cocoa count as one plant each. Stick to reasonable portions — a square of dark chocolate or a cup of tea counts once per 7-day window, not per cup.

What's the difference between this free calculator and Nourii's in-app Plant Score?

The in-app Plant Score auto-populates from the meals you log (photo, voice, or text), rolls forward every day, and shows you which plants are repeats vs new. This web tool is a one-off self-report — useful for a quick check, but the app's version updates itself.
